I really like to hear that more states are moving in this direction. The more states that allow this brings proof that this medicine is needed by many elderlly patients. When the patients do better by using marijuana, then all their family is affected by this and there is more thrust for legalization everywhere.

I'm glad to see the strong support for medical marijuana in Iowa. If a majority supports it in Iowa, that's a positive sign for the rest of the nation, which tends to be more liberal. It's time to stop harassing the medically needy.

Medical marijuana laws fix the problem on a state level not a federal level. Every time a state becomes MMJ legal, a portion the marijuana produced for that state will ultimately end up in a state that doesnt have MMJ legal. Good for Iowans, hasn't changed much or americans ;)

I don't know how you can read the federal law and not see it clearly says "accepted medical use in treatment in the United States". What states? Isn't that the 50 states? Since 1996, fourteen states and the District of Columbia have accepted the medical use of marijuana. The only reason state medical marijuana laws do not trigger federal rescheduling is because none of those laws says the federal government must be notified that marijuana now has accepted medical use in that state. It's up to the states to tell the federal government that reclassification is mandatory because the state has accepted the medical use of marijuana. The state cannot simply be silent about the federal scheduling when it enacts a medical marijuana law. The federal government is not going to make the first move. The state has to trigger the change in federla scheduling.
