Now is the time to legalize Medical Marijuana for Iowa. I suffer from Diabetic Neuropathic Gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach.) Symptoms are chronic nausea, vomiting and wasting syndrome. The only help my doctors can give me is a prescription for Reglan/Metoclopramide for chronic nausea and vomiting control. I have been on Marinol for years and it does not help at all. As my digestive specialist handed me my Reglan prescription he said, "Do not take Reglan/Metoclopramide on a regular basis for it causes 'irreversible Parkinson like shakes and tremors." This is a common side effect. Though rarer regular use of Reglan/Metoclopramide also causes "Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome which is fatal. So my options are 1) Risk acquiring another lifelong disorder and/or death. Or 2) live in fear of arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, forfeiture of money, property and Government benefits for housing, education and health care simply by treating myself with the safest, most therapeutically active substance known to man, marijuana. I choose to live in fear, I can control my fear without risking my health much better than taking Reglan/Metoclopramide.

THank you so much for reporting abut the medical marijuana hearings with the board of Pharmacy. I enjoyed your report. THere was one slight mistake of ommission. I do not smoke pot. I take a medical dose by prescription from my Physician the the Federal gov supplies to me thru nida and a pharmacy. I think this might be a little more important then I have smoked 20 yrs.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 7 years ago and with in that time I have been through multiple medication mixes to help with the chronic pain. Today I sit with no pain relief except marijuana. My quality of life is very poor without it and I have a life to live, so I risk jail in order to be a better Mom and wife. My children are educated with the FACTS about prescription drugs, illegal drugs and the worst, alcohol. Todays news is filled with people dieing of prescription drug overdose, but I have yet to see anything about overdosing on Marijuana. You can, if you can smoke 1500 pounds in 15 minutes of less. Probable yes, possible, no.

We just need to educate ourselves with the facts. You may not agree with the use of medicinal marijuana, but I ask that you think of us who suffer daily and believe that God gave us this perfect plant to help us live our lives the way we were meant to do.

If more people would research how and why marijuana was criminalized. they would be outraged by conduct of who was leading the push. There was equal pressure from bigoted lawenforcement, and major coporations. Harry Anslinger used very bigoted hate speech in his testimony before congress. The major coporations that competed against Hemp were paper, cotton and chemicals.
Hemp makes better paper than trees, makes better cloth than cotton, and could make petroleum obsolete.
As it stands right now, deer and rabbits will eat a Marijuana plant to the ground, and come back for more.
